Art by Devon Kateri Gorman
Devon has her own site for her latest artistic postings, so please feel free to visit her there, too!! http://shidebbi-2010.deviantart.com/
The Manicure
Graphite drawing, 9" x 12". This exquisite drawing by Devon demonstrates her versatility and skill with drawing. As mentioned in her Bio, Devon studied art in school, but her main interests appear to have gone in other directions for the present.
The Water Tank
Oil on canvas, 11" x 14", This represents a scene near Devon's home in Chinle, AZ. Her Gorman grandparents count on wind mills to provide life-giving watert for their stock. When the clouds such as those threatening in the background don't provide enough rain, water must be hauled in to replenish the supply. Devon gifted this painting to her Aunt Tish and Uncle Curt.
Girl with Fry Bread
Pastel, 11 x 14. From the collection of Chrystine Gorman. This charming picture shows a familiar scene from Devon's family life in Chinle, Arizona. Although Devon's older cousin Chrystine (doble cousin = sister in the Navajo Way) now lives in Alabama, this could well have been a portrait of her from her own childhood.
Devon's First Rug
Although gifted in painting and drawing, Devon only began to study one of the traditional forms of Navajo art, weaving, during her time in Chinle. This is her first rug, and it is a beauty, very even and tightly woven. She has chosen the simplest form, as the black, gray and white are the colors available from natural wool. Devon also delved deeply into her Dine' culture by entering the Miss Navajo contest one year.
